Corzine Wins New Jersey Governorship

U.S. Senator Jon Corzine coasted to an easy win last week in New Jersey gubernatorial election, defeating Republican challenger Doug Forrester by a 10% margin and winning 13 of the State’s 21 counties.He will be sworn in on January 17, 2006, at which time he will resign his Senate seat.He will have the opportunity at that time to name his successor, who will serve the final year of his Senate term. NJ CAR congratulates our Governor-elect and looks forward to working closely with the new Administration to ensure the voice of automotive retailers is heard in Trenton. In other election news, the Democratic majority in the General Assembly saw a slight increase.Democrats held a 47-33 majority prior to the election.They gained at least one seat and possibly as many as three, depending on the results of absentee ballots in two races.
