David Sickel Named New Jersey’s 2009 TMQDA Winner

NJCAR is proud to announce that David Sickel, President of Pine Belt Chevrolet of Lakewood, was recently selected as NewJersey’s 2009 TIME Magazine Quality Dealer Award (TMQDA) winner. The TMQDA recognizes new vehicle dealers in the United States for exceptional performance in their dealerships combined with distinguished community service.Nominations for the TMQDA are submitted by NJCAR members, and a winner is chosen by the NJCAR Awards Nominating Committee made up of the sitting Chairman and all past winners of this prestigious honor. A nominee must be a member of NADA and NJCAR for at least five years. The individual should spend at least 60% of his or her time involved in dealership affairs. David Sickel will represent NewJersey in the national competition, which takes place at the NADA Convention in NewOrleans, Louisiana in January 2009. NJCAR will honor David at the Coalition’s next Board of Director’s meeting on February 19, 2009 in Trenton.David Sickel began his automotive career in 1969, after graduating from Franklin & Marshall College with a degree in Political Science and serving six months active duty in the Naval Reserves. David worked with his father as a salesman and became the dealer of record in 1975, upon his father’s retirement.More than 70 years after the dealership’s first Chevrolet store opened, David’s son has joined the family business, which has grown to an eight-store, third-generation auto group serving Monmouth and Ocean counties.David Sickel has received many awards in the automotive field, including the Jack Smith Leadership Award, Mark of Excellence-Chevrolet Genuine Leader Award, Oldsmobile Elite and GMAC Bowl “Champions of Life” Award. He has also served on both the New York Region Chevrolet Dealers Advertising Association and Auto Dealer Magazine Advisory Board.In addition to his professional success, David has worked with many organizations to improve the quality of life for everyone in the communities in which he lives and works. David serves on the Board of Directors of St. Barnabas Health Care System and serves as Vice-Chairman of the Kimball Medical Center Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Kimball Medical Center Foundation. He is on the Board of Directors of the Lakewood Police Department Superior Officers Summer Youth League, the Lakewood High School Athletic Association, Senator Robert Singer’s Juvenile Crime Commission and the Lakewood Police Department D.A.R.E. Program. He has also previously served on the Board of Trustees of the Lakewood Preparatory School.David Sickel has been honored many times over the years, including Citizen of the Year 1999 by the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Council of Ocean County, Lakewood NAACP Achievement Award in 1997, Monmouth Ocean Development Council Silver Gull Award for Business Achievement in 1996, Lakewood Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year Award in 1990, the Kimball Medical Center “Humanitarian Award” in 1990, and the Deborah Hospital Association Man of the Year Award in 1987.NJ CAR wishes David Sickel much success as he represents New Jersey in the national competition.
