Dealerships can start processing motor vehicle work for vehicles that were sold prior to August 23, 2024. NJMVC has reprogrammed its fee table to not charge the EV Registration Fee for those transactions.
NJMVC will invoice customers for sales that occurred prior to August 23, 2024, but the registration is being completed on or after August 23, 2024. The NJMVC is also working on a way to refund dealers whose accounts were debited the applicable EV Registration Fee. NJMVC has advised that it will update when a solution is found.
PURCHASES – Dealers are reminded that for NEW EVs they should have started to collect the 4-year accelerated EV Registration fee from customers starting on August 23, 2024. For USED EVs, dealers collect the EV Registration fee for 1 year. The EV Registration Fee is in addition to the regular registration fee and is as follows for purchases:
- $250.00 EFF. DATE 7/01/2024 – EXP. DATE 6/30/2025
- $260.00 EFF. DATE 7/01/2025 – EXP. DATE 6/30/2026
- $270.00 EFF. DATE 7/01/2026 – EXP. DATE 6/30/2027
- $280.00 EFF. DATE 7/01/2027 – EXP. DATE 6/30/2028
- $290.00 EFF. DATE 7/01/2028
LEASES – Dealers are reminded that the EV Registration fee for leases follows the term of the lease and is in addition to the regular registration fee. For example, on a lease that is registered between 7/1/2024 and 6/30/2025 the fee is as follows:
- 1-year Lease –———-EV Reg Fee is $250
- 18-month Lease –——-EV Reg Fee is $500
- 2-year Lease –———-EV Reg Fee is $500
- 3-year Lease –———-EV Reg Fee is $750
- 39-month Lease ——–EV Reg Fee is $1000
