Governor-Elect Murphy Names His Attorney General & Treasurer

Governor-elect Phil Murphy has named Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir Grewal, who was appointed by Governor Chris Christie last year, as his selection for Attorney General. Mr. Grewal previously served as an Assistant U.S. attorney and led the economic crimes unit for several years, overseeing the investigation and prosecution of all major white collar and cyber crimes.

He studied foreign service at Georgetown University, graduating in 1995, and went on to earn his law degree at the College of William and Mary in 1999.Mr. Grewal’s nomination will be subject to confirmation by the state Senate.Governor-elect Murphy has also nominated Assemblywoman Elizabeth Maher Muoio as State Treasurer. Assemblywoman Muoio has served in New Jersey’s 15th District since 2015, when she was appointed to replace Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman.

Assemblywoman Muoio, a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, sits on the Assembly Budget Committee, Commerce and Economic Development Committee and Judiciary Committee. She is also the Economic Development & Sustainability director in Mercer County and is both a former Mercer County Freeholder and former council member in the borough of Pennington.
