NJ CAR’s 100th Annual Meeting was held on Monday, September 17, 2018, at The Ridge at Back Brook in Ringoes, New Jersey. Governor Phil Murphy was in attendance and spoke to attendees briefly about his desire to work with auto retailers on issues important to the industry, including brokering, updating the motor vehicle advertising regulations that have been little changed in nearly 40 years, removing obstacles to greater electric vehicle adoption and workforce training. The Governor also read a Proclamation, recognizing NJ CAR’s 100th Anniversary and the impact auto retailing has on the State’s economy.
Cody Lusk, President and CEO of the American International Automobile Dealers Association, was also on hand to speak with attendees about the impact a potential worldwide trade war would have on auto retailing and the latest status on the Trump Administration’s threats to impose tariffs and renegotiate NAFTA and other trade agreements.
NJ CAR’s Outgoing Chairman Rob Larson, Incoming Chairman Lenny Datello, and President Jim Appleton also spoke to attendees about issues the industry and NJ CAR have faced over the past year and commented on anticipated issues the industry will face in the coming year. Eric Nielsen, the dealer principal of Dover Dodge Chrysler Jeep, Inc., was also recognized as NJ CAR’s 2019 TIME Dealer of the Year Award winner. Copies of both Mr. Larson’s and Mr. Datello’s Annual Meeting remarks are included as attachments to this NewsLetter.
