In Memoriam: Former NJ CAR and AIADA Chairman Larry Kull

It is with deep sadness and a sense of loss that we report the passing of former NJ CAR Chairman Larry Kull. Larry, President of Burns-Kull Auto Group in Marlton was a 40+ year veteran and well-respected leader in New Jersey’s retail automotive industry. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him for his kind and generous spirit. He loved golf, birding, karaoke, summers down the shore and winters in Florida.

Larry was born in Staten Island, New York on September 8, 1950 and grew up in Brick Township. He spent his summers working at the beach stand run by his family. After high school, he attended the University of Vermont on a football scholarship. He met his wife Debbie on campus and they married in 1971. After college, Larry worked for Xerox before joining his father’s Honda and Pontiac dealership as a Service and Parts Director in 1979. A few years later, in 1984, he established a management company to oversee the family’s dealerships, which grew to include Burns Honda, Burns Buick GMC, Burns Hyundai, Genesis of Cherry Hill, RK Chevrolet, RK Subaru, RK Kia, Toyota Vineland, and Avalon Honda.

Larry first joined the NJ CAR Executive Committee in 2009 as Regional Vice President- Southern Region and served as the Coalition’s Chairman in 2016-2017. He also served as the 2014 Chairman of the American International Automobile Dealer Association (AIADA) and held senior positions in various other associations and foundations. Larry was also named New Jersey’s 2020 TIME Dealer of the Year award winner and represented the Garden State at the national competition.

Larry supported a wide variety of local charities and initiatives throughout his life, including the NADA Charitable Trust Ambassadors Program, the American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, and various other educational and health-related organizations. He also served on the board of the Cooper Medical School at Rowan University. Larry is survived by his wife, Debbie, children David (Michelle) Kull and Jamie (David) Galemba; grandchildren Henry, Charlotte, and Claire and siblings Richard (Robin) Kull, John (Monika) Kull, Stephen (Carolyn) Kull, Susan (Peter) Lanzavecchia and the late Sandra (Jim) Gee. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Platt Memorial Chapels (2001 Berlin Rd. Cherry Hill, NJ)At the request of the family, if you are not fully vaccinated, please wear a mask in the chapel.
