Joseph T. Dockery, Jr. Named New Jersey’s 2008 TMQDA Winner

NJCAR is proud to announce that Joseph T. Dockery, Jr., President of Prestige Motors, Inc., was recently selected as NewJersey’s 2008 TIME Magazine Quality Dealer Award (TMQDA) winner. The TMQDA recognizes new vehicle dealers in the United States for exceptional performance in their dealerships combined with distinguished community service.Nominations for the TMQDA are submitted by NJCAR members, and a winner is chosen by the NJCAR Awards Nominating Committee made up of the sitting Chairman and all past winners of this prestigious honor. A nominee must be a member of NADA and NJCAR for at least five years. The individual should spend at least 60% of his or her time involved in dealership affairs. Joseph Dockery will represent NewJersey in the national competition, which takes place at the NADA Convention in SanFrancisco, California in February 2008. NJ CAR will honor Joe at a Brunch that will be held at Six Continents in the InterContinental Mark Hopkins Hotel on Sunday, February 10, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.Joseph Dockery began his automotive career at the age of 13, when he changed oil at his father’s Ford dealership in Montclair, New Jersey. You could say that the oil has stayed in his blood for the last 50 years. During his high school and college years he worked throughout the dealership, exposing himself to a variety of jobs and responsibilities.After graduating college, Joe was offered the chance to take over for his father when he stepped down, but declined, feeling his older brother should be given the opportunity. In 1967, the family was offered the chance to open a Mercedes-Benz dealership and, in 1969, Joe became the youngest Mercedes-Benz dealer in the United States at the time. That dealership sold 100 cars in its first year.In the early 1980’s, Joe acquired a Land Rover dealership and, in 1989, became a charter Lexus dealer. During the same year he purchased a BMW franchise, followed by Toyota, Porsche, MINI and Volvo. Today, the Prestige Motors dealerships generate approximately $1 billion in annual revenues and employ more than 700 people.Joseph Dockery has received many awards in the automotive field, including Best of the Best Mercedes-Benz for the past six years, Elite of Lexus for the past 13 years, Toyota’s President’s Award the past seven years, Toyota Board of Governors Award the past four years, the BMW President’s Award and the MINI Motoring Cup. He has also served on both the Land Rover Dealer Council and Lexus Dealer Council.In addition to his professional success, Joe has worked with many organizations to improve the quality of life for everyone in the communities in which he lives and works. He is on the Board of Governors of the Hackensack University Medical Center and the Board of Trustees of the Hospital’s Foundation. Joe is also on the Board of Trustees of the Winchendon School and Gilda’s Club of Northern New Jersey. He was also Vice Chairman of the Stamford Sailing Foundation and is a member of the Michael Wolk Heart Foundation.Joseph Dockery has been honored many times over the years, including Man of the Year 1995 by the West Bergen Mental Health Association. He was also recognized as Man of the Year 2004 by the Hackensack University Medical Center and Citizen of the Year 2006 by Ramapo College.
