Legislation Passes To Establish Autonomous Vehicle Task Force In New Jersey

Feb 01, 2019

Not wanting to miss out on the economic benefits that will come as autonomous vehicle technology advances, the New Jersey Senate unanimously passed SJR105, which creates the New Jersey Autonomous Vehicle Task Force.

The eight-member task force will study the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) safety standards for advanced autonomous vehicles. The group will also evaluate other state’s regulations and laws concerning autonomous vehicle safety standards. They will then recommend whether stricter safety standards should be enactedin New Jersey before allowingtesting of advanced autonomous vehicles on the State’s roadways. The task force is expected to issue its initial report to Governor Murphy within six months.

NJ CAR will continue following the progress of the task force and offer input when it is warranted.
