# State Holiday * Federal Holiday

** New Jersey Law provides that when a State legal holiday falls on a Sunday, the Monday following shall be deemed a public holiday. The law also provides that when a legal holiday falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday will be observed as a holiday by State employees, and State government offices will be closed. County and municipal offices and schools and their employees are not covered by this provision, although local jurisdictions may opt to similarly close facilities. Banks and other private sector activities are also not covered by this Friday or Monday observance provision.

** Federal Law provides that when a federal legal holiday falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday will be observed as a holiday. Likewise, when a federal holiday falls on a Sunday, it will be observed on the following Monday. Banks, however, are governed by State law with respect to holidays.
