NHTSA Asks Dealers To Share Safe Summer Driving Tips

The National Highway Transportation & Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a 2017 Summer Driving Tips document that touches on safety issues related to vehicles. Dealers will be providing a community service by printing the document attached to this NewsLetter and providing a copy to every customer that enters your showroom.

The document focuses on making sure consumers are keeping up with their vehicle maintenance including:

?Checking for open recalls.?Checking tire air pressure and tread wear.?Checking all lights.?Checking the cooling system.?Checking all fluid levels (oil, brakes, transmission, power steering and windshield washer).?Checking the condition and fittings of all belts and hoses.?Checking wiper blades.?Checking air conditioning system.

The document goes far beyond vehicle maintenance and also touches on general vehicle safety tips to keep drivers and passengers protected including:

?Encouraging all vehicle passengers to wear their seatbelts.?Taking breaks during long trips.?Being aware of other vehicles on the road, as well as motorcyclists, bicyclists and pedestrians.?Avoiding distractions while driving.?NOT driving while impaired.?Driving no faster than the posted speed limit.?Taking weather and traffic conditions into consideration when driving.
