Operations Will Resume As Conditions Permit

NJ CAR Forced, Reluctantly, To Close Motor Vehicle Operations Effective Immediately

Apr 01, 2020

We regret to inform you that, effective immediately, the Coalition must close the NJ CAR Motor Vehicle Operations. Our contracted Courier (ARC Transport) has notified NJ CAR that it is pulling all drivers off the road and suspending operations at the end of business tomorrow (April 2). Accordingly, there will be no further courier service after tomorrow (April 2), until further notice.

Please be assured that all motor vehicle work that has been picked up from New Jersey dealerships will be safely stored at NJ CAR’s 770 River Road facility and will be processed when the facility is able to reopen.

Any dealership wishes to retrieve unprocessed Motor Vehicle work from the DSP office, may send a prepaid Federal Express or UPS airbill to the following email: [email protected].  Staff will make every effort to return your work within 72 hours.

NJ CAR staff will continue to answer phones and email remotely. But, due to the serious safety concerns associated with the coronavirus pandemic and working conditions at he 770 River Road location, we are no longer able to continue to operate safely or efficiently on premises. As a result:

  • No Inspection Decal orders can be filled.
  • No transactions can be processed thru the DSP operation, including title flips.
  • No Owner-Only IDs or EIN look-ups can be completed.
  • No Document verification of work processed thru the On-line systems (CVR and Dealertrack)

Please NoteDealerships that choose to continue processing transactions online will not receive titles until NJ CAR is able to, once again, resume normal operations. We will make every effort to return work as soon as practical, but until courier services resume and the serious threat of contagion recedes, we must, reluctantly, discontinue motor vehicle processing services.

DO NOT send additional work via Overnight Express or U.S. Mail during this time, since no one will be in the building to secure it.

Dealers are reminded that they can use a New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) Dealer Reassignment Form to transfer ownership of a vehicle—avoiding the necessity of flipping the actual title document.

In addition, both resident and non-resident eTemp Registrations have been extended by the NJMVC for 60 days beyond their normal (30-day) expiration date, for a total of 90 days.

The number of individuals infected with COVID-19 in New Jersey is expected to continue increasing and peak in the near future. It is our hope that discontinuing the courier service and shutting down NJ CAR motor vehicle operations will protect dealership employees all over New Jersey and our own NJ CAR employees from exposure.

We apologize for the inconvenience and assure you that NJ CAR will reopen its Motor Vehicle Operations and resume production as soon as it is safe to do so.
