Hearing loss happens gradually as a result of long-term exposure to loud noises. Many times, damage is not realized until it is too late. To protect your employees’ hearing, remember:
•Damaging noise levels occur at 85dB. ?A typical conversation = 60dB. ?Average power tool = 100-110dB. ?Point at which average person feels pain = 140dB.•Employees should always use ear protection when noise levels exceed 85dB.•Earplugs can reduce noise levels by 25-30dB and earmuffs up to 35dB. Consider having your employees use multiple forms of hearing protection in very loud situations.
