NJ CAR Safety Tip- Preventing Hearing Loss

Mar 21, 2016

NJ CAR is committed to helping dealers develop a workplace safety culture that becomes second nature. Don’t wait until an accident happens to focus on safety. You can reduce the chance of injury and protect your bottom line with simple, common-sense changes.

Hearing loss happens gradually as a result of long-term exposure to loud noises. Many times, damage is not realized until it is too late. To protect your employees’ hearing, remember:

Damaging noise levels occur at 85dB. ?A typical conversation = 60dB. ?Average power tool = 100-110dB. ?Point at which average person feels pain = 140dB.•Employees should always use ear protection when noise levels exceed 85dB.•Earplugs can reduce noise levels by 25-30dB and earmuffs up to 35dB. Consider having your employees use multiple forms of hearing protection in very loud situations.
