NJ CAR sponsored two student/technicians in the National Automotive Technical Competition held at the Jacob Javits Center by the Greater New York Auto Dealer Association on March 29 & 30. This year’s NJ CAR team, designated “Team LEXUS,” was comprised of Jason Golis and Tom Engelke, both seniors at Hunterdon County Polytech in Flemington.
Prior to the competition, a practice vehicle was made available to the school by Lexus of Bridgewater General Manager, Ron Joffe. Their Polytech instructor, Chris Scheuerman and NJ CAR staffer, Mark McAleer, oversaw their preparation for the event and were both on-hand at the New York Auto Show for the competition.
Through the more than six hours of competition encompassing all areas of vehicle repair, Jason and Tom were given the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to diagnose and repair against 29 other teams from across the country. Their efforts were rewarded with a Top 10 finish.
