Austin Tarby and Patrick Willey, seniors at Hunterdon County Polytech in Flemington, New Jersey, won 2nd Place at the 2019 National Automotive Technology Competition, held at the Jacob Javits Center April 23-24, 2019.

The event, hosted by the Greater New York Auto Dealer Association (GNYADA), is a six-hour competition that allows two-student teams from across the U.S. and Canada to demonstrate their ability to diagnose and repair a variety of vehicle issues.

The Hunterdon team, sponsored by NJ CAR, has performed well at the national competition over the past several years, finishing in 7th place in 2016, 4th place in 2017, 3rd place in 2018 and 2nd place (out of 29 total teams) this year.

The Hunterdon County Polytech team won the inaugural New Jersey Auto Tech Competition, sponsored by NJ CAR and held at Brookdale Community College on January 19, 2019, to earn the right to represent the Garden State in the national competition.

NJ CAR wants to recognize Bill Berardino, President, and Roger Pittman, COO of Fixed Operations at Tri-State Luxury Collection, and Ron Gwinnett, Service Manager at Lexus of Bridgewater, who lent the school a 2019 Lexus ES350 and scanning tool for the team to practice on in their shop for six weeks leading up to the competition.  Robert Swistack, Service Manager at Fred Beans Toyota, as well as technicians at the dealership also supported the team’s effort by allowing them to get hand-on technical training alongside professional automotive technicians.

Please join NJ CAR in congratulating Austin, Patrick and their instructor, Chris Scheuerman for  representing New Jersey so well.
