Recalls Swamp U.S. Auto Dealerships

Aug 13, 2015

Auto dealerships across the country are scrambling to keep up with a record number of safety recalls, which hit nearly 64 million last year. The recalls impacted virtually every manufacturer, although some—such as General Motors, Toyota and Honda—were hit harder than others.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has also been levying huge fines on manufacturers for violating rules governing effective and timely recall remedies, as well as notification to vehicle owners, dealers and NHTSA itself.

Responding to the influx of recall repairs, many dealerships are hiring additional technicians to handle all the extra recall work, on top of the routine workload.
