Employment Outlook 2018:Harassment & Marijuana In The Workplace-What Every Dealer Needs To Know

NJ CAR will be hosting a FREE half-day seminar on January 24, 2018, at Forsgate Country Club (375 Forsgate Drive, Monroe Township, NJ 08831), that will cover the hot-button issues of sexual harassment and marijuana use in the workplace. Dina M. Mastellone, Esq., and John Vreeland, Esq., of Genova Burns LLC, as well as Tom Rizzuto of Travelers Insurance, will be the featured presenters for this very informative and timely seminar

With a renewed focus on sexual harassment in the workplace, this seminar will focus on avoiding claims of harassment and discrimination in your dealership. The Seminar will provide participants with information related to:

  • What groups and/or categories of individuals are protected under federal and State laws;
  • What types of harassment exist; and
  • Who can be responsible for engaging in harassing conduct.

The seminar will provide practical tips on properly handling harassment complaints to avoid costly litigation. A representative from Travelers Insurance Company will also discuss the current market for Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) underwriting guidelines and pricing and will also review REAL claims that have occurred in New Jersey dealerships. EPLI is an important coverage that can help protect your dealership from claims of harassment and discrimination. Dealers must be certain to include this coverage in their overall property and casualty insurance program. With the legalization of marijuana on the horizon in New Jersey, the second part of the seminar will focus on the use of marijuana in the workplace, its impact on your dealership’s Drug Testing Policy and providing reasonable accommodations for employees utilizing medical marijuana for disabilities. The seminar will discuss challenging issues that arise with current substance testing procedures, Department of Transportation (DOT) safety standards, and best practices for employers to implement, in order to avoid a potential lawsuit arising from an employee or applicant with a medical marijuana registry card.

Registration and continental breakfast begin at 8:00 AM, and the seminar will run from 8:00 AM until 12:00 Noon.
